What is a Domain Name and how do you use one?
A Domain Name is essentially the unique internet name that you register to use for your businesses website and your business email addresses.
The most common and most obvious choice of domain names for Australian based businesses of any size are domain names that end in .COM.AU
As an example, the website you are on right now has the Domain Name of digitalresults.com.au (look at the address bar of your website browser above).
Alternatively, Australian businesses can register a domain name that ends in .NET.AU although these domain names are not as preferable for many marketing reasons as a .COM.AU domain name, it does re-inforce that the business is an Australian business entity.
Only eligible Australian business entities and trade mark holders are able to register domain names ending in .AU which has proved to be a very good way of stopping people and companies who do not have a business within Australia from registering .COM.AU and .NET.AU domain names, that really should be available to Australian businesses.
An example of a typical non-professional free email address for our example company above on the right would be widgetBlocks@Bigpond.com*.
In contrast, a professional business email address using their own Domain Name would be Sales@WidgetBlocks.com.au which helps promote WidgetBlocks’ domain name rather than Bigpond’s name.
